Why visiting Paris in winter is a good idea

Travelling to Paris during the summer months is popular, but have you ever thought of visiting Paris in winter?  

Winter is a wonderful time to see Paris for a number of reasons:

1. No crowds - you don’t have to line up to see all the tourist attractions, you don’t need to wait in line for a table at a favourite café or restaurant, the trains are less busy and it is easier to get around.

2. Sales (soldes) are on in January – Sales start around 7^th January and all the shops go on sale at the same time. The sales run for about 5 weeks. Excellent time to grab some bargains.

 

3. Weather - There are plenty of blue-sky days during the Paris winter months, and if you are lucky, it may even snow! However, a warm coat is a must. All places are insulated, so you don’t need to wear bulky heavy clothing underneath. I got around very comfortably having cotton layers, one light woollen jumper or cardigan and my coat. The key is to layer your clothing and wear natural fibres.

4. Cheaper accommodation! - Most of the hotels lower their rates during the low season, so there is plenty of good quality affordable accommodation during the winter months.

5. Easier to book travel – Whether on the bus, trains or planes, it is easier to book your seats during the winter months as you don’t have to compete with lots of tourists travelling, so there are usually seats available and prices are cheaper too!

6. Mix with the locals - You get a real taste of Paris during the winter months and get a sense of what it feels like to be a local. With so few tourists around, it is easier to meet the locals and make new friends.
